Walking in Condessa and Roma

Day 6: 7 April: My Toms were good for 10 of 11 miles

This was our last sightseeing day and we decided to take the Jim Johnson walks in Condessa and Roma.  We had enjoyed our day in Coyoacan and were looking for more of the same.

We started the tour at Parque Mexico and were immediately in love with the views of the blooming jacarandas.

This statue/fountain is emblematic of La Condessa and is the entrance to Foro Lindbergh where there is a skating rink and lots of dogs, kids, families, couples wandering and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Dogs and kids galore
The fish pond was a little stinky
The streets adjacent to the park are lined with interesting buildings.

We arrived at the small, precious Plaza Popocatepeti and laughed at the cute dog deciding whether or not to jump into the (empty) fountain. (He did).

I found some blue doors around the corner next to the American Legion

1934 Serrano "ocean liner' building
We made our way over to Avenida Amsterdam and walked down the center of the boulevard (in the camellon). An oasis in the middle of a busy avenue.

Ridiculously gorgeous door
Old fashioned barber shop
We stopped at El Tizoncito for tacos; they claim the al pastor started here.
Delicious tacos al pastor
Complimentary and delicious condiments
We wandered about in the Centro Cultural Bella Epoca. A bookstore, cultural center, kids playground, filled with people.

Nearby, we admired the pretty doors and cool interior of Santa Rosa church.

I paused to photograph another pretty door and tiled doorbell.

And the tire shop next door.

We headed over to Mazatlan and walked down its middle (or camellon) until we reached the Palacio de Hierro department store. It was cool in the camellon and the architecture on either side of the avenue was just lovely.

We had walked about 9 miles at this point and were a bit tired so ubered back to the hotel from the Palacio de Hierro.

After relaxing a bit, we headed across the street from the hotel to the Parco Alameda which was teeming with people. The blooming jacarandas added their lovely touch.

We walked by the Palacio de Bellas Artes and tried to get a selfie.

We walked through this little Chinatown street on our way to Tio Pepe's for a margarita before happy hour at the Hilton.

We got a picture with the shoeshine man and the nice waiter.

The sun was setting beautifully. What a view!

This turned out to be dinner and it was very enjoyable.

It was our last night in Mexico City, a Saturday night at that, so we headed back out to the Zocalo.  On our way, we were lucky to see the inside of Templo de San Felipe Neri before it closed.

We tried for drinks at the Gran Hotel Mexico City but it was closed so we ended up back on the balcony of the Majestic Hotel. The view of the Cathedral was lovely.

A slow meander back to the hotel for the night. We immediately started planning our return trip in January 2019 to celebrate my birthday!

On Sunday, we ubered to the airport, getting there 3 hours before our 12 noon departure (Southwest airlines). That was an hour too soon as we waited a long while for the staff to arrive. No other issues and a few short hours later, we were back home.

Mexico City was chosen because of the Killers who put on a great show, as usual.  Husband had always wanted to go and loved it as much as he expected to. Surprisingly, so did I.  And I'm very much looking forward to celebrating my January birthday in the lovely weather, beautiful sights, and wonderful food that this massive, welcoming city offers!

Next: France: Pezenas, Isle sur la Sorgue, and Paris in September
